Barbara's Story

Surgical

"I have my life back..."

Headshot of Barbara in her living room, smiling

In January 2011 I had thyroid cancer so I had my thyroid removed and my parathyroids were damaged and they are not working. Three years later, I was on a shot of parathyroid hormone called Natpara and was doing great but in September 2019 the FDA recalled the shot. I was so bad the month of January I lived on crackers, tomato soup and pretzels. I could barely get around and my quality of life was nothing. In January 2020 I was accepted to a trial for calcium deficiency in New York and was accepted. This is a PTH hormone called TransCon. To say my quality of life has been an improvement would be an understatement. I have my life back and living life to its fullest.
