"I’m a mom to a funny and bright elementary school age girl with hypoPARAthyroidism."

I’m a mom to a funny and bright elementary school age girl with hypoPARAthyroidism. She was diagnosed with it at age three after fainting suddenly at church. Initially the ER doctors thought she had a heart problem but luckily a doctor at the PICU kept running labs. We have no idea how this happens as no one else in the family has it. We have tried to keep her life “normal” but there have been many ups and downs given the calcium crashes and subsequent symptoms. This current crash is unusual as we cannot explain it and she is asymptotic. I am thankful she is not in pain, just easier to get tired. Definitely a lot of dental work in her near future. We’ve had doctors help and understanding. She “zooms” with a friend who also has a rare medical condition. For myself, I’ve joined a small local group of mothers who have children with special medical needs - a much needed reminder we’re not alone and we don’t have to be.
